Is Your Gear Ready?

Beginning in 2027, Illinois will restrict the sale of firefighter PPE containing intentionally added PFAS. As one of the pioneering states regulating these chemicals, Illinois sets a standard that others will soon follow.

The Transition Starts Now
As firefighter safety standards evolve, departments need more than a non-fluorinated solution. They need turnout gear that helps manage heat stress while maintaining the protection firefighters rely on.

Request a quote with Banner Fire Equipment. We’ll talk through non-fluorinated moisture barrier options, show you AeroFlex firsthand, and answer any questions you might have about the transition.

Breathability Without Compromise

Non-fluorinated moisture barriers often have lower
Total Heat Loss (THL) and higher Resistance to
Evaporative Heat Transfer (Ret) values, impacting
overall breathability. The result can be increased
heat stress, reduced comfort, and greater fatigue.
For firefighters, breathability is more than a
comfort issue. It can impact safety.

As heat stress remains one of the leading causes
of firefighter line-of-duty deaths, departments
need turnout gear options that support both
protection and physiological well-being.
That’s why we focus on delivering protection
through innovations like AeroFlex®, giving
departments the flexibility to choose the solution
that best fits their needs.

Milliken Horizon™ Outer Shell

Milliken Horizon(TM) is a lightweight, NON-Fluorinated outer shell fabric that maintains its color and tear strength, wash after wash and call after call.

Horizon doesn't just work hard on-the-job, it works hard off-the-clock, too. Powered by ColorSeal™ Technology, the fabric retains its appearance and color through repeated launderings and UV exposure. This gives your department a level of uniformity and professionalism other fabrics can't deliver. Providing the market with the highest strength retention possible, maintaining 98.9% in NFPA 1970-2025 Standards multi-conditioning testing, it can withstand a fire department's most difficult and dangerous jobs.

Crosstech fabric

GORE-TEX CROSSTECH® PRIME

The GORE-TEX CROSSTECH Prime Moisture Barrier is designed to help manage the impacts caused by elevated body core temperatures. With unmatched breathability, it supports better body temperature regulation - crucial for maintaining focus and performance in high-stress environments.

ADDITIONAL BENEFITS: Engineered for extreme conditions, this barrier allows heat and perspiration to escape efficiently, helping reduce the risk of heat stress. It remains thermally stable in extreme conditions without melting, sticking, or igniting. Elevate your confidence knowing it's component recognized to the NFPA 1970 (71) standard and compliant with EN 469.

Proven Breathability

AeroFlex was designed to help firefighters manage heat stress. Combining AeroVent® Technology
and VaporLite® Panels, the system promotes airflow and allows heat and sweat vapor to
escape through key heat zones, helping firefighters stay cooler during demanding operations.
Select AeroFlex composites achieve RET values as low as 28. The result is a lightweight, breathable
system that supports more efficient evaporative cooling.
